How we carried out the Nestle lighting upgrade
The Nestle site in Altona is a flagship distribution centre and the first to trial a state of the art warehouse automation system yet their warehouse still relied on outdated high pressure sodium lighting.
For the benefit of current staff and all those from the greater business that are due to come view the new automation system Nestle wanted the site to look great.
All businesses want to save money on their bills but Nestle were not only looking to reduce the operating costs of their high wattage high bay lights, but also wanted to reduce the power usage of the refrigerated site that finds itself exceeding the maximum load during any of those runs of hot days in summer.
The barriers to getting the upgrade done were the site operates 24hrs a day with trucks unloading and loading all the time, the ceilings were high and the placement of the old lights made it difficult for a lot of mid spec LED replacements to create adequate lighting levels.
The amazing difference in the quality of lighting
The Green Guys provided a lighting design and the right mix of high end products with the output to meet the requirements of Nestle’s procurement team and the expectations of the staff onsite. Working closely with the Nestle team onsite, an installation schedule was incorporated into the project that had zero impact on the daily operations of the site working in different areas at different times of night or day to get the installation completed before the projected completion date.
In addition to the impact on daily operations there was also a strict deadline due to the installation of the automation system that we could not delay and also would prevent us from accessing some areas if we didn’t get the timing right.
The Green Guys turned a project that was almost looking like going into the ‘too hard basket’ into a successful upgrade where Nestle are happy and the right lighting solution has been delivered.
How the LED Lighting upgrade made a difference.
The Green Guys Group replaced 707 lamps, which resulted in a $150,829 saving on electricity costs. This kind of an upgrade means that Nestle can feel proud of having minimised their environmental impact by not using 1,371,173 kWh of energy each year and abating 5,519 tonnes of CO2. On a global scale, this single upgrade means 2,363 barrels of oil not consumed, 2,190 less cars on the roads and 1,202 acres of forest grown.
